Cookie Policy

Browsing this website stores nothing on your device for tracking or advertising. This page lists the few things that can set cookies and when they come into play.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file a website saves in your browser so it can recognise you later. Similar technologies, such as local storage, work in much the same way. UK law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations) says sites must ask for consent before setting any that are not strictly necessary.

What our own site sets

When you read our pages as a visitor, our site sets no cookies and writes nothing to your browser's local storage. In particular:

  • there is no analytics software, so no visit counting or behaviour tracking
  • there are no advertising, retargeting or social media pixels
  • our typefaces are stored on our own server, so no font service such as Google Fonts sees your visit
  • the little script that turns on animations only checks whether your device asks for reduced motion; it stores nothing

Because nothing optional is set, you will not see a cookie banner.

Cookies for site administrators

The site runs on WordPress. WordPress sets cookies only for people who log in to manage the site, such as our own staff. Ordinary visitors never receive them.

CookiePurposeHow long
wordpress_test_cookieChecks the browser accepts cookies at loginSession
wordpress_logged_in_*Keeps an administrator signed inSession, or 14 days if "remember me" is ticked
wordpress_sec_*Secures the admin areaAs above
wp-settings-*Remembers admin screen layoutUp to a year

These are strictly necessary for the login to work, so they do not need consent.

Services from other providers

Three features on our pages come from outside companies. Each one can receive your IP address and basic browser details, as any web request does, and any cookies involved are set by that provider, not by us.

  • The enquiry form. Our quote form is shown in a frame served by our customer management provider. It may use cookies that are needed to deliver and submit the form securely.
  • The service area map. On the contact page, the map draws its tiles from OpenStreetMap's servers. We have added no tracking to the map.
  • WhatsApp. The WhatsApp button does nothing until you submit its short form. It then opens WhatsApp (part of Meta) with your message ready, and from that point WhatsApp's own cookie and privacy terms apply.

Controlling cookies

You can see and delete cookies in your browser's settings, and block them altogether if you prefer. Blocking cookies will not stop you reading this site. If you block them for the form provider, the enquiry form may not load; you can still reach us by email at info@avonskylightsbristol.co.uk.

If this changes

If we ever add analytics or any other cookie that is not strictly necessary, we will update this page first and ask for your consent before it is set. How we handle personal data more widely is covered in our privacy policy.
